Portrait of Anna Walsh

Anna Walsh

Dublin, Ireland

Hello, I'm Anna

My journey into travel writing started with a simple notebook and a frustration: I couldn't find the kind of honest travel advice I was looking for about Ireland. Guidebooks covered the famous sites, but missed the nuances that make a trip memorable.

So I began creating detailed trip plans for myself: researching thoroughly, mapping routes that connected interesting spots, and documenting what actually worked (and what didn't). These personal guides evolved from practical necessity into something I genuinely enjoyed crafting.

When friends started asking to borrow my notes for their own travels, I realised these insights might help others. The handwritten pages eventually became blog posts, and now, the articles you'll find here.

What drives me is capturing the reality of places, not just the postcard view, but the best time to visit to avoid crowds, where to find that perfect morning coffee nearby, or which local guide genuinely knows the history rather than reciting scripts. I document these details because they're what transformed my own experiences from tourist stops into meaningful connections.

I still approach each location with the same methodical planning and curiosity. My camera and notebook remain constant companions as I collect the small but crucial details that don't make it into standard guides. Sometimes the most valuable travel advice isn't about the landmark itself, but about that bench with the spectacular view where you can sit quietly and absorb it all.

Writing about Ireland has become my way of preserving moments that would otherwise fade, while helping fellow travelers create their own authentic experiences in this country that continues to surprise me, even after all these years of exploration.
